Murat Kurum, COP31 President-Designate, and Michael R. Bloomberg announced a new partnership to support the COP31 Presidency’s Action Agenda — mobilizing finance, convening business and finance leaders, and accelerating implementation ahead of COP31 in Antalya.
LONDON, 24 June 2026 — Murat Kurum, COP31 President-Designate and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye, and Michael R. Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions and founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, today announced a new partnership to support the COP31 Presidency’s Action Agenda ahead of the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya, Türkiye.
“I am delighted to announce this new partnership between the COP31 Presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Together, we will bring together policymakers, businesses and philanthropies in Antalya to mobilize finance, deploy innovative technologies, and deliver concrete results.” “This will be essential to driving progress on the COP31 Presidency’s key priorities, including our targets on zero waste and electrification.”
“Confronting climate change requires collaboration across society, not just closed-door negotiations between nations.” “As we have in years past, Bloomberg Philanthropies is glad to be working with Türkiye and Australia to bring public and private sector leaders together, build more of the partnerships we need to drive progress from the bottom up, and encourage nations to aim high and act boldly.”
Announced during London Climate Action Week, the partnership will support the COP31 Presidency’s efforts to strengthen collective action, accelerate implementation, reinforce international cooperation in pursuit of the goals of the Paris Agreement and advance the United Nations’ broader climate priorities.
As COP31 host, Türkiye brings significant momentum on clean energy. BloombergNEF analysis shows Türkiye ranked among the world’s leading renewable energy markets in 2025, placing fifth globally for wind additions and tenth for solar additions.
COP31 aims to help close the gap between multilateral climate commitments and real-world delivery by turning the commitments made in Paris and reinforced in Belém into practical outcomes and action-oriented cooperation. Building on Mike Bloomberg’s longstanding commitment to supporting COP presidencies, advancing implementation, and elevating climate ambition at every level of government, Bloomberg Philanthropies will work alongside the COP31 Presidency to:
At a time of intensifying climate and energy challenges, COP31 — through a first-of-its-kind bilateral model of cooperation between Türkiye and Australia — will actively encourage the meaningful participation of all stakeholders, including governments, academia, civil society, the private sector, and youth throughout the process.
“Climate action is delivered by people, communities, businesses, and governments. As we move from commitments to implementation, partnerships that bring together governments, business, finance, cities, and civil society will be essential to accelerating progress and turning ambition into real-world results. The collaboration between the COP31 Presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies reflects the kind of engagement needed to help drive practical solutions, mobilize investment, and support countries in delivering on the goals of the Paris Agreement.”
“As the COP31 Climate High-Level Champion, my mission is to engage all parts of society — from youth and civil society to businesses, financiers and subnational leaders — alongside national governments at the heart of the climate agenda, towards a zero-waste, zero-carbon future. Inspired by the global leadership of Her Excellency Emine Erdoğan in advancing the Zero Waste movement, we warmly welcome innovative partnerships that help deliver our ambitions for COP31 in Antalya by turning global commitments into measurable and impactful solutions where they are needed most.”
“Mobilizing private capital at the scale required to support the energy transition will depend on strong partnerships and practical pathways to investment. We look forward to working with the COP31 Presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies to help strengthen enabling environments, build capacity, and unlock investment opportunities in clean energy, industry, and infrastructure.”
BloombergNEF will also contribute to the wider Bloomberg events platform at COP31 by convening public- and private-sector leaders and publishing insights and analysis on the low-carbon energy transition. Bloomberg Green at COP31 will convene top leaders from business, finance, policy, academia, and NGOs for candid discussions focused on creating solutions to support the goals set forth at the conference.
Since COP21, where Mike Bloomberg and the City of Paris convened the first Climate Summit for Local Leaders, Bloomberg has worked alongside successive COP presidencies to help bring cities, businesses, financial institutions, and subnational governments into the heart of the global climate process. At COP28 in Dubai, Bloomberg Philanthropies co-hosted the first-ever COP-hosted Local Climate Action Summit, bringing together over 500 mayors and governors from more than 60 countries. In Brazil, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the COP30 Presidency co-hosted the COP30 Local Leaders Forum in Rio de Janeiro and the COP30 Business and Finance Forum in São Paulo, convening thousands of business and subnational leaders ahead of the negotiations.
