Clean Energy Transition

Clean, secure, and affordable energy for all — accelerating access while ensuring reliability.

Why It Matters

Clean, secure, and affordable energy for all — accelerating access while ensuring reliability.

Energy transition encompasses grid infrastructure, storage, efficiency, electrification, and access to critical technologies. Approximately 730 million people lack access to electricity while 2 billion remain dependent on polluting cooking methods — associated with 3.7 million premature deaths annually.

Core Focus Areas

Clean Cooking Access

COP31 prioritises the scale-up of clean cooking technologies to reach the roughly 2 billion people still dependent on polluting cooking methods. The Presidency works to mobilise high-integrity finance models that make these solutions accessible to the most vulnerable communities.

Grids, Storage and Flexibility

COP31 supports investment in grid infrastructure, energy storage and flexibility mechanisms to integrate renewable power reliably. The Presidency champions the strengthening of modern, resilient grids as the backbone of the clean energy system.

Efficiency and Sustainable Cooling

COP31 advances energy efficiency and sustainable cooling solutions that meet rising demand driven by a warming climate. The Presidency prioritises efficiency gains that cut emissions while reinforcing energy security.

Electrification Pathways

COP31 supports just and accelerated electrification pathways for the roughly 730 million people who lack access to electricity. The Presidency aligns electrification across transport, industry and buildings with clean supply to advance emissions reduction and development together.

Nationally Grounded Transition

COP31 grounds its approach in transition pathways that respect each country's distinct level of development, resource base and priorities. The Presidency promotes just and realistic transitions in which no community is left behind.
