Biography

Murat Kurum has extensive experience in environment, urban development, urban transformation and disaster management. Throughout his ministerial terms, he has led significant work in the areas of resilient cities, social housing, national gardens, zero waste and the fight against climate change.

With a circular published under the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he was appointed as COP31 President for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties, which will be held in Türkiye for the first time.

Under Murat Kurum's presidency, Türkiye aims to strengthen climate diplomacy throughout the COP31 process on the basis of dialogue, consensus and action, while contributing to the global fight against climate change through its experience in resilient cities, zero waste and green transformation.
