Privacy policy

COP31 Türkiye is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy describes what personal data we may collect, how we use and store it, and the rights you may have in relation to that information when you use this website.

This policy is written to align with the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law and international data protection good practice, including transparency and purpose limitation. Specific registration or accreditation services may be governed by additional notices you receive at the point of collection.

1. What data we may process

Depending on your interaction, we may process data you choose to provide (e.g. name, email) and technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited, often via cookies and similar technologies as further described in our Cookie policy section. The official COP31 mobile app processes, for users who choose to create an account, your full name and — for authentication — your Turkish national ID number or (for foreign participants) passport number, plus optionally your email, phone, country and organisation, and stores this on servers operated by the data controller, the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change (passwords are kept only as a secure hash). The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics/tracking SDK; event reminders and favourites are kept only on your device; in the “Share Photo” feature the image you select is framed on your device and shared via the system share sheet, not uploaded to our servers. The app can also be used as a guest without an account.

2. Purposes and legal bases

We process data to run and secure the website, respond to your enquiries, manage accreditation or events where you apply, comply with our legal obligations, and improve our services through aggregated or anonymized analytics. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

3. Retention, sharing, and your rights

We retain data only for as long as needed for the purposes set out in this policy or as required by law. We may use trusted service providers (e.g. hosting) under appropriate contracts. You may have rights to access, rectify, or erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, subject to local law. Use our published contact address for data protection queries. Mobile app users can delete their account and associated data at any time from within the app; to exercise your rights under Article 11 of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), contact info@cop31.tr.
